KUALA LUMPUR: With an aim to equip Canadian youth with what is needed to meet the challenges of today's globalisation, Global Vision Canada has been at the forefront of this endeavour.

Having been in existence for close to 30 years, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of Global Vision's Malaysian chapter which kicked off their first youth economic trade mission back in 1999.

Although the Malaysian chapter, then called Rakan Muda Team Malaysia (RMTM) is no longer in existence today, it has successfully launched several trade missions in the past, with an alumni that includes Transport Minister Anthony Loke who was part of the first mission in 1999.

This year, Global Vision's trade mission from Canada continues with a visit to Malaysia and Singapore.

Called Junior Team Canada, this year's team is made up of 14 youth delegates, led by Global Vision's founder and president Terrence Clifford and director Amy Giroux.

The father-daughter duo has been passionately training Canadian youth as well as those from other countries, to equip them with the skills, knowledge and opportunities needed to succeed in the global economy.

Part of Junior Team Canada's visit to Malaysia, was a trip to the New Straits Times Press' (NSTP) Balai Berita in Bangsar, here, today.

In the team are Ardhaya Shanmugathasan, Carson Baker, Kate Morency, Sally Meseret, Sean McCloskey and Thador Tekhli from Ontario. From British Columbia are Vivian Xie, Noah Wong, Sameer Esmail, Jerry Jiang and Jason Liao.

Meanwhile from Quebec are Juan Pablo Beltran Pena and Maxim Giroux. Another team member Michael Batas is from Alberta.

The visit included a meet with the New Straits Times' (NST) Group Editor Rashid Yusof and NST executive editor (Business, Digital and Op-Ed) Lokman Mansor, among others.

The group was taken on a tour of the NST newsdesk where they were given an insight into what takes place before a paper is printed in Malaysia.

Junior Team Canada arrived in Malaysia last week and will be here until this weekend. They are also scheduled to visit the Transport Ministry in Putrajaya prior to leaving for home.
