MELAKA: The flood situation in the state continues to improve today, with the number of flood victims in Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah, falling to 714 while seven temporary relief centres (PPS) were closed.

State Disaster Management Committee secretariat head Lieutenant Colonel (PA) Effendy Ali said as of noon, only six PPS were operating while seven were closed in stages.

“In Alor Gajah district, 396 victims from 96 families were placed at four PPS after seven had been closed in stages since Sunday.

“As for the Melaka Tengah district, the two remaining PPS are housing 318 victims from 48 families.”

Effendy said, in Alor Gajah, the affected areas were Kampung Gadek, Paya Datuk, Bukit Balai, Bukit Tambun, Taman Seri Bayu 1 and 2, Kampung Belimbing Dalam and Kampung Sungai Tuang, Masjid Tanah.

While in Melaka Tengah, he added, the affected areas were Taman Tamby Chik Karim, Taman Merdeka Jaya, Krubong Jaya Park, Kampung Lanjut Manis, Kampung Tanah Merah, Kampung Sungai Badau and Kampung Tampoi.

Chief Minister Adly Zahari said the state government would channel allocations to 250 affected families.

“The allocation is based on the police reports made by victims.

“We will also provide help for cleaning up the affected homes.

“The parties that will be involved include Askar Wataniah 514, non-governmental organisations and university students,” he said after launching the Southeast Asia Vegetable Symposium 2019 here today.
