MELAKA: Ainul Mardhiah Ahmad Safiuddin’s family is expected to return home soon after spending almost a month in the United Kingdom.

Her parents Ahmad Safiuddin Ahmad Razak and Nurul Erwani Zaidi, both 24, looked after 10-month-old Ainul Mardhiah who underwent surgery to remove her germ cell tumour in London.

“We are making preparations to return home. God-willing, we will be back soon and things will be smooth sailing,” Ahmad said yesterday.

Ainul Mardhiah underwent a five-hour surgery to remove a 200g tumour in her mouth on June 10 at a hospital in London.

She is reported to be in a stable condition and showed positive improvement following an increase in body weight.

The operation, estimated to cost more than RM1 million, was spearheaded by a group of surgeons led by Professor Dr David Dunaway

UK-based trainee surgeon Dr Nur Amalina Che Bakri facilitated the surgery through several initiatives, including appealing for help on social media to bring Ainul Mardhiah to London for treatment when chemotherapy failed to control the growth of the tumour.
