PORT DICKSON: The proposed Hard Rock Hotel project in Port Dickson is set to proceed with construction expected to commence this year.

Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the hotel is expected to benefit locals in terms of job opportunities as well as to contribute to the growth of the small businesses in the area.

"Based on discussion with the project's owner and developer, they have not put forth any new conditions and are prepared to abide by the current regulation.

"Therefore, I have discussed with the state government and there are no problems," he told reporters after a programme at the Port Dickson Hospital, here, today.

Commenting further, Anwar said the plan to build a Hard Rock Hotel in the district was previously met with opposition by locals based on the perception that the hotel would be selling liquor rampantly.

"There was a misunderstand before, because of the Hard Rock Cafe brand, it sounds like they will sell liquor rampantly. Actually this is not the case, it will be like the conditions set for any other hotels, which means they will not be allowed to go against the current rules and regulations.

"The locals do not have to worry because the picture painted before this is different. I have looked at it, looked at the rules and regulations, infact they have given the assurance that they will help with job opportunities, and cleanliness of the surrounding area, so this will benefit locals," he said.
