KUALA LUMPUR: Traders at the first-ever Ramadan bazaar in Jalan Raja here are bracing for a slow start to their business, as the fasting month kicks off today.

Songkok trader Rustam Munad, 56, a regular seller at the Ramadan bazaar in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (TAR), said he felt the new location was not suitable for business.

“I am not setting a high sales target this year.

“My stall is far from the main road. I am worried that the public, including my regular customers, will not want to take the trouble to visit my stall. The distance and the hot weather might turn them off.”

He said he was not happy with the relocation because there were so many things that were not done yet.

“For instance, I have yet to get my stall number.

“They have also not installed fans. It will be hot inside the stall.”

Dry food seller Siti Noorikha Mahbob, 36, is worried that the new location would not attract the crowd.

“It is located along Jalan Raja. The hot weather will make visitors feel uncomfortable, especially children and senior citizens. Prior to this, when they visited the Jalan TAR bazaar, there are buildings nearby to offer shelter from the sun or rain.”
