PUTRAJAYA: Students who had not received a placement in the Education Ministry's matriculation programme are advised to submit an appeal.

The ministry said all appeals could be submitted via online, post, by hand, fax or email until April 29.

Those who had appealed could check for the result via online, short messaging system or call the Education Ministry's Matriculation Division starting from May 21.

"The programme intake policy for this year remains 90 per cent for Bumiputera and 10 per cent for the non-Bumiputera based on the meritocracy system.

The merit calculation is based on four subjects depending on the applied course for science, accountancy or engineering, it added.

"This means, if a student scored 10As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, the merit calculation is based only on four relevant subjects.

"The existing policy also stipulates that student intake will be determined on 90 per cent academic achievement and 10 per cent for co-curriculum," said the ministry in a statement today.

It also explained the 2,200 placements for Indian students made last year by the past government was a one-off deal, based on available vacancies in the Bumiputera quota.

"It was the same for the 1,000 placements for Chinese students, also a one-off deal."

As the government aimed to empower the low income or the B40 group, 60 per cent of the placement in the matriculation programme would be allocated for the B40 and the rest for the middle-income (M40) and high income (T20).
