PUTRAJAYA: The Transport Ministry has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to all airlines operating in the country to avoid Pakistani airspace following its closure on Wednesday.

Its minister Anthony Loke said that the move is standard operating procedure which Malaysia began applying following the MH17 tragedy over war-torn Ukraine.

“After the MH17 incident, our aircraft (now) avoid (flying over) conflict zones.

“(The NOTAM) is necessary for the safety of passengers. All airline companies will comply with the notice,” he told reporters after the launch of the National Revised Road Safety Education Module for Primary Schools here, today.

On Wednesday, Pakistan’s civil aviation authority shut down its airspace to all commercial flights following air skirmishes with Indian forces.

NST has learned that all five major international airports in Pakistan have been suspended for two days from yesterday.
