PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has cancelled the operating license of Mawar Medical Centre (MMC) in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, for violating conditions stipulated under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 (Act 586).

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the MMC must cease operations immediately.

He revealed that the ministry’s director-general issued the MMC a show-cause notice to cancel its license on Nov 12 last year, and the hospital responded with a written submission.

“However, the MMC failed to explain and prove that they did not violate Act 586.

“(As a result), the Health director-general issued a letter on Dec 14 to cancel MMC’s licence,” Dr Dzulkefly said at a press conference today.

In response to the letter, the MMC submitted an appeal on Dec 20 as provided under Section 49(2) of Act 586.

“But the appeal could not be accepted and the Health Minister’s Office issued a cancellation confirmation letter today,” said Dr Dzulkefly.

The ministry had ordered the MMC to cease all operations following the resignation of all but one of its medical specialists on Nov 1, last year.

However, its haemodialysis centre continued operating as usual, as there was high demand for its services.
