KUALA LUMPUR: Focusing on the potential students diversity was among the10 reasons why the Education Ministry took steps to abolish the year one examination.

The examination was replaced with a more objective assessment system starting this year.

Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik, said other reasons for the abolition of the uniform assessment system had also enabled teachers to focus fully on their educational duties as well as students free from stress at the beginning of their schooling year.

"The abolition (examination) also allows teachers to inculcate moral values in their students under the principle of being caught and taught.

"It can help shape students under the 'learning - centered' method as well as build and reinforce the 4M skills of reading, writing, counting and understanding," he said in a video posting uploaded on his Facebook and Twitter page, today.

Maszlee said the move to abolish the examination had also enabled the ministry to implement the Classroom Based Assessment (PBD) comprising games, simple projects, role playing, storytelling and quizzes to students.

The move, he said was able to improve the talent, interest, skills and personality of the students.

"With this initiative, teachers were given space to plan student's PBD activities while the learning objective is based on the standards set by the teacher’s themselves according to the methods and needs of the students.

"These are the 10 reasons why the year one examinations were abolished and they are parallel to the educational approach towards" learning centered ", rather than" exam oriented, "he said.

On Oct 31, Maszlee announced the abolishment of Year One, two and three students' examinations.

The announcement received positive feedback from parents whose repatriation income indirectly changed the structure of education to be better.
