KUALA LUMPUR: PKR central executive committee member, Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid has not discounted the possibility of a conspiracy within the party to prevent Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from replacing Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said based on the current political developments, it is not impossible for such a conspiracy to exist.

"Even though everyone knows the consensus reached by PH is that after Tun (Dr Mahathir), Anwar is his anointed successor, How ever there appears to be conspirators who is seeking undermine the agreement.

“I do not deny that there is much information on the matter and it can be said that the movement has been in place way before the PKR election itself.

"I am surprised as to why the conspirators in question are seeking to become the Prime Minister, however all their activities is being monitored by the party," he told the NSTP.

Abdullah Sani was commenting on a Financial Times report that there were rivals within PKR that could threaten Anwar's path to becoming the country's eighth prime minister.

“I do not deny, there are some in the government coalition who have different agenda," he said.
