KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) within 48 hours to investigate the death of Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who was severely injured during the riot at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya last month.

Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa (Perkasa) president Datuk Dr Ibrahim Ali said the RCI was needed to seek justice for Adib and to ensure the real culprits behind the incident which led to the death of the fireman would receive a just punishment.

He added that Adib’s case should be investigated just like the murder of Teoh Beng Hock (who was found dead at the fifth level of Masalam Plaza where the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption headquarters was located on July 16, 2009).

“Those who are involved in the riot only received a light sentence and have been released a few days ago.

“How fast this case (the riot) was brought to the court, and now there’s been a death. Therefore, Perkasa is urging the government to announce an RCI within 48 hours,” he said in a statement today.

Ibrahim said there was no reason for the government to deny the setting up of RCI to investigate the murder of Adib, who breathed his last after being treated for three weeks at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

Meanwhile, Ibrahim also expressed his sadness over Adib’s passing and extended his condolences to the fireman’s family.
