TAIPING: The founder of Sekolah Agama Rakyat Kampung Sungai Betul in Bagan Datuk was given the Mithali Family Award at the state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration, here, today.

Harun Othman, 83, received a plaque, a certificate and RM5,000 from Perak Regency Council chairman Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa.

Present were Raja Dihilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris Shah and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Harun, who has 11 children, said he was proud of his award.

He said he could not have done it without the support of his wife and children.

“I raised my children the way our Prophet Muhammad guided us and equipped them with Islamic knowledge so that they could play important roles in society,” he said at the Advanced Technology Training Centre in Kamunting, here.

“I taught them to perform their prayers and never miss prayer.

“I always tell them not to be arrogant and always help people when they are in need.”

Harun is also the assistant registrar of marriage and has more than 30 years’ of experience.

Five of his children are local university graduates.

The event, which started with a Quran recitation, talks and selawat was attended by more than 2,000 people.
