KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens are singing praises of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his strong message to the international community at the 73d United Nations General Assembly in New York.

As of 5pm today, almost 300,000 social media viewed the video of the prime minister addressing global leaders during the event, which was streamed live via his Facebook account, Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad.

The clip also received more than 11,000 likes and shared more than 6,000 users as of press time.

More than 117,000 social media users tuned in to #NSTTV, #BHTV and #METROTV, which also shared clips of Dr Mahathir’s speech.

A Facebook user, who identified himself as Keng Huei Chew, said he is proud and impressed with Dr Mahathir for his ability of deliver a good speech with high spirited at the age of 93.

“(He is) so amazing on the global stage. The best leader in the world,” he said.

Another user, Ooi Teik Chen, said also agreed that Dr Mahathir is the best leader in world since he is also the most senior leader to deliver his speech at this year’s UN general assembly.

“Salute and proud for our prime minister. He should be recognised as the world’s best leader,” he said.

Hamy AK, on the other hand, was impressed with the energy displayed by Dr Mahathir, referred fondly as ‘Tun M’ among his followers, at the UNGA.

“Praying the best of health for Tun M. May he do the best for Malaysia.”

Another user, Faizal Zal Faizal, said action by Dr Mahathir, who criticised Israel for the atrocities in Palestine, should be supported by the Muslim community regardless of their political affiliations.

“Tun M is brave to announce his support for Palestine and the fight for the honour of Islam.

“As a Muslims, we should support this effort,” he said.

Yahya Buyong said Dr Mahathir’s speech is laden with information and advice for others to emulate.

Yoga Subhra said the people in Malaysia are always proud Dr Mahathir for his tenacity and concern on the welfare of those who being oppressed.

Dr Mahathir, in his 24-minute long speech, spoke on various issues as he made his comeback to the UN after 15 years.

He spoke on how terrorism could be stopped if the international community recognise the state of Palestine.

Dr Mahathir had also condemned Myanmar and Aung San Suu Kyi for the massacres of the Rohingya.
