KUALA LUMPUR: The recent arrests of two Kedah Parti Keadilan Rakyat members last Saturday to assist in a money politics investigation over the selection of branch leaders is an isolated case and does not threaten the party’s stability.

PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the case was still under investigation and the accusation levelled at the two had yet to be proven.

He said stern action would be taken, including dismissal, if they were found to be guilty, as corruption in the party polls could affect PKR’s good name.

“The arrests of two members in Kedah is an isolated case. It has nothing to do with the top leadership,” he told a press conference here today.

“I believe that it will not affect the election process and PKR’s stability.

“We will continue to clean the party of bad hats, especially those involved in corrupt practices, to ensure transparency in the running of the party.”

Nik Nazmi was commenting on two Kedah PKR members who were remanded for six days until Sept 21 over alleged involvement in money politics in the upcoming party election on Sept 22.

The suspects were picked up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after they were believed to have requested RM20,000 from a man as an inducement to make sure that his name was not dropped from the list of candidates.

MACC seized RM10,000 from both of the suspects. The case is investigated under Section 16 (a) (A) of the MACC 2009 Act.
