BALAKONG: The groundbreaking ceremony held today for road upgrade works in Jalan Balakong, here, is not a by-election campaign move.
Works Minister Baru Bian said it was just a coincidence and had nothing to do with winning votes.
“It is just a coincidence that I was invited to launch the groundbreaking ceremony by the developer, Parkland Group,” he said.
“I can’t help it if there is a by-election going on. As far as I am concerned, the government will proceed and bring in development for the people.
“It has nothing to do with gaining votes from the people.”
Baru said the RM8 million road upgrade project would start this month and be completed in six months.
He said it involved widening a 800m stretch of Jalan Balakong to four lanes, installation of traffic lights at two junctions and streetlights, drainage upgrading works and relocation of utilities.
“It is a corporate social responsibility project by Parkland Group. It is so rare for a developer or construction company to carry out such projects for the benefit of the people.
“Other companies and developers should emulate this initiative, especially since the economy is going through a challenging period,” he said.
Present were Works Department director-general Datuk Seri Dr Roslan Md Taha and Parkland Group managing director Victor Tan.
