KUALA LUMPUR: Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, officiated the launch of the book “Sri Kandi: Biografi Penerima Pingat Mas Tun Fatimah 1974-2013”(Sri Kandi: Biographies of the Tun Fatimah Awards Recipients)

at the Dewan Perdana FELDA, here tonight.

The launch of the book, penned by Profesor Emeritus Datuk Dr Nik Safiah Karim, took place at the National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO) in conjunction with the 55th Women’s Day celebration.

Women’s Day is celebrated each year on August 25 to honour the achievements and appreciate the contributions of women to the community and the nation.

On another development, Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said 4,365 housewives have registered for the i-Suri incentive programme since it registration opened on August 15.

She said the scheme will be implemented in phases, targeting housewives whether they are heads of households, widows or single women who are registered in the e-Kasih database.

“The i-Suri scheme isn’t only meant to fulfil the promises laid out in the (Pakatan Harapan) manifesto; it also aims to preserve the interests of women, especially housewives.

“We believe women are continuously contributing towards the nation’s development either directly or indirectly.

“As such, we will ensure that the government remains committed to preserving the welfare of women nationwide,” she said.

Dr Wan Azizah said the government is aware of the public’s wish to see change implemented with regards to women’s issues.
