KUALA LUMPUR: One of the findings of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) is that the Pakatan Harapan government’s decision to abolish toll collection may not be wise, considering the country’s current financial situation.
Its chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin also said that the CEP has received many alternative proposals from various concessionaires on the issue.
“The idea is to remove tolls completely, and in this financial position, it is not wise to do so.
“I think the rakyat will be able to understand,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Ilham Tower here today.
The Works Ministry recently said that it will postpone the move to abolish toll collection until the economy stabilises.
Daim also announced the end of the CEP’s 100-day mandate to advise the Prime Minister on socio-economic and financial matters.
