KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian teen made history when she was recently accepted into one of the top military academies in the US.

Janushaa Bala Krishnan Muthiah, 19, an engineering student from Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), made the cut to attend the prestigious United States Service Academy.

She is the first Malaysian female to accomplish the feat.

It is understood that Janushhaa will be pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering at the US Naval Academy (USNA), before embarking on a career as a fighter jet pilot.

The Pahang native was one of 15 candidates chosen from over 150 countries to pursue further education at the USNA, a local portal reported.

In a statement on Janushaa’s achievement, the US embassy said: "Janushaa (was) chosen after a rigorous selection process to represent Malaysia at the prestigious USNA, where she will spend the next four years learning to be a professional military officer alongside cadets from around the world."

A special ceremony was held in Kuala Lipis, Pahang, last month to celebrate her success.

The ceremony was attended by US ambassador Kamal Shirin Lakhdir, who presented Janushaa with her letter of acceptance.
