KANGAR: ‘No more drama, it is time to get to work.’

This was the comment made by Datuk Seri Azlan Man as he arrived at the Menteri Besar office here to clock in for his second term today.

Clad in a black lounge suit and red tie, the Bintong assemblyman arrived at about 10.10am accompanied by several senior civil servants.

Azlan posed for media photographers in his office, but declined to answer questions posed by reporters.

Ironically, he began by thumbing through several local newspapers on his table – almost all of which carried front-page reports on the Perlis political crisis.

The situation was triggered after Perlis Umno chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim tapped his younger brother, Datuk Ismail Kassim, to become the new Menteri Besar.

In spite of being sworn in yesterday – 14 days after the 14th general election – political uncertainty in the state continues, as Shahidan and all nine Perlis Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen skipped the ceremony to hold a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

Their act earned the wrath of Raja Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

The Ruler said he had turned down Ismail’s nomination, as he did not want to appoint a ‘puppet’ Menteri Besar.

BN retained control of Perlis by winning 10 out of 15 state seats in the GE14.

Pakatan Harapan won three seats, while Pas won two.
