PUTRAJAYA: Malay rights non-governmental organisation (NGO) Jaringan Melayu Malaysia president turned up at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to lodge a report on alleged offences committed by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

JMM spokesman Datuk Lokman Noor Adam claimed to have compiled 12 previous complaints by from PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his wife (now deputy prime minister) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Lim Guan Eng who is now Finance Minister, on the alleged wrongdoings by Dr Mahathir during a time when they all did not see eye to eye.

He also called for old cases on Dr Mahathir to be reopened to uphold the graftbuster’s principle to act without fear or favour.

“If they want to prove they are fair and truly part of a new Malaysia, they have to investigate these allegations,” he said after submitting a memorandum to demand for the case to be investigated in a free and fair way.

Lokman, who is an Umno information bureau member, said the statement by current MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull during his tell-all session had also jeopardised the ongoing graft investigations conducted on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“The investigation is not yet over and it’s obvious that Shukri’s appointment is a form of payback,” he said, while alluding to earlier statements by Dr Mahathir that the new government would not take revenge on any party but would instead uphold the rule of law in all proceedings.

He said this after leading a protest by a group of 20 JMM members outside MACC headquarters. Also present was JMM president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah.

Lokman, who is also part of a group called Pemantau Malaysia Baru, lodged a report resterday against Shukri for not lodging a police report on attempts to bribe him to close the 1MDB investigation.

In his report Lokman claimed that Shukri had violated Section 25 (1) and (2) of the MACC Act 2009 by not lodging a report.

Lokman said that Shukri could be fined not more than RM100,000, iailed for not more than 10 years, or both, if he was found guilty of the offence. — Reports by Hidir Reduan, Veena Babulal and Teoh Pei Ying
