BAYAN LEPAS: At least four factories near the air cargo complex in Batu Maung here are on fire.

Although the fire was reported at 10.30pm on Thursday, it is understood that firefighters are still at the scene trying to control and put out the blaze.

It is learnt that one of the factories is a plastic factory.

No reports of casualties have been reported.

State Fire and Rescue Department chief Saadon Mokhtar, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

He said efforts are underway to put out the fire.

Meanwhile, Penang International Airport authorities confirmed that airport operations were not affected by the fire.

“The airport operations are not effected and runs as normal even though the fire broke out at Batu Maung, near the airport area,” an airport official said.

Photos and video footages of the raging fire have found their way into social media as many have initially thought that the air cargo complex was on fire.
