JERLUN: A home alone disabled elderly man was burnt to death when his house was destroyed
in fire this evening.
The incident took place at Pida 8 Baru, Jalan Sanglang-Kodiang, near here.
The charred remains of Salleh Arifin, 63, was discovered by firefighters who were inspecting the scene after putting out the fire.
Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Public Relations Officer Mohamad Mustakim Mokhtar said they received a distress call about 8.51pm.
He said Lana Bulu Volunteer Fire Brigade and firefighters from Arau station arrived at the scene some nine minutes later followed by firefighters from Jitra station.
"The firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 9.28pm but the victim's home was destroyed by 90 per cent.
"While scouring the scene, the firefighters stumbled upon the charred remains of the victim, who lived alone at the house," he said this evening.
Investigations are being carried out to identify the cause of fire.
