SELANGAU: Two locations along the Sibu-Mukah road flooded early morning, causing traffic jam as vehicles had to slow down and take an alternative route.

Pan Borneo Highway traffic officer Edwin Buyong when contacted said the incident occurred around 6.30am.

“The two affected areas are located about 3km away from Selangau. We have set up an alternative route and stationed our officers there to control the traffic and assist road users,” he said.

The water from Sungai Duat near Rumah Usit overflowed and inundated the areas, with water reaching up to 1-meter, he said.

As a result of the flood a bus broke down but no other untoward incidents were reported.

The route will be closed if the situation worsens.

“If this happen, it means that people will not be able to travel from Sibu-Mukah via road as this is the only route we have,” he said.

A check at the scene showed that some vehicles had decided to make a U-turn instead of driving through the floodwater while other vehicles were seen experiencing some minor damage.
