KUALA LUMPUR: Police will summon the administrators of popular tech forum Lowyat.net following the latest data leakage involving 220,000 Malaysian organ donors and their next-of-kin.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department is currently probing the case.

Fuzi however noted that it was unusual that the reports on the two data breaches all appeared to originate from the forum.

“Previously, the forum had reported on the data leakage involving 56 million telco users. Now the same forum has revealed another data leakage.

“Part of the investigation is to establish whether the latest report came from the same source,” he told a press conference.

Fuzi had earlier launched a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Investigation guideline book at an event in Sogo, here.

On the latest progress of the investigation on the data leak involving telco users, Fuzi said the investigation is now under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Yesterday, Lowyat.net reported that personal details of over 220,000 organ donors and their next-of-kin (NOK) had been leaked online.

It said the leaked data contains MyKad numbers, home addresses and telephone numbers of the pledgers and their next-of-kin.
