KAJANG: A couple is feared to have been abducted in Selayang, following a series of ominous threats made against them in the weeks leading up to their disappearance.

V. Mohan, 35 and his wife P. Vinshini, 28, who run a restaurant in Balakong, disappeared on Saturday after closing their shop for the day.

Their relatives last made contact with them when the couple were shopping for groceries at the Selayang wet market about 5am.

Mohan’s uncle K. Kalisvaran, 48, said the couple were last seen at their restaurant, before going to the Selayang wet market with their Nissan Vannette van bearing the plate number WMS 411.

“We fear they may have been abducted. Their van was also nowhere to be seen at the wet market.

“As of 10pm the same day, Vinshini’s phone was still ringing but nobody answered. Then it went off,” he said, when met at the Kajang district police headquarters, here.

He said Vinshini’s mobile number was last traced in Grik, Perak. The family’s effort to search for the couple in Grik, he said, also proved futile.

The family claim that the couple had in the weeks prior to their disappearance, claimed that they had been tailed by an unknown person in a car.

“Mohan had also told us that he had received calls from an unknown person who had issued threats against him. He said he had no idea who and why the person contacted him. He chose to ignore the caller.”

Asked if the alleged abduction was linked to loan shark matters, Kalisvaran said that as far as the family knew, the couple had never borrowed money to run their business.

The couple lived with Vinshini’s parents at Taman Jati, Rawang, and have two children aged six and 10.

The couple’s family have lodged a report at the police district headquarters here.
