SANDAKAN: A teenager turned violent when he was caught red-handed trying to break into a car at Bandar Letat off Mile 4, Jalan Utara here at 9pm on Monday.

The owner of the car, 26, had caught the 17-year-old attempting to pry open the door of his Proton Waja with a piece of wood, and moved in to catch him.

The teen however, reacted violently and attacked the car owner with the block of wood, landing repeated blows on him.

A security guard who noticed the incident moved in to help and wrested the weapon from the teen and overpowered the assailant.

The car owner sustained cuts and bruises as a result of the attack.

Police later apprehended the teen. Checks showed that he did not have any identification documents.
