SANDAKAN: A teenager turned violent when he was caught red-handed trying to break into a car at Bandar Letat off Mile 4, Jalan Utara here at 9pm on Monday.
The owner of the car, 26, had caught the 17-year-old attempting to pry open the door of his Proton Waja with a piece of wood, and moved in to catch him.
The teen however, reacted violently and attacked the car owner with the block of wood, landing repeated blows on him.
A security guard who noticed the incident moved in to help and wrested the weapon from the teen and overpowered the assailant.
The car owner sustained cuts and bruises as a result of the attack.
Police later apprehended the teen. Checks showed that he did not have any identification documents.
District police officer Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).
