LANGKAWI: The body of a fisherman, who went missing at the sea three days ago, was found entangled in fishing net Saturday morning.

Langkawi Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) operation deputy director Nurulazme Zakariah said the victim, identified as Mohd Aznan Rashid, 40, was discovered by local fishermen about seven nautical miles away from Pulau Beras Basah.

According to Nurulazme, the MMEA district operation centre received a call at 8.15am from fishermen who made the discovery when they pulled out their fishing nets.

"Following the report, a patrol boat was deployed to the location where the victim, who was fully clothed, was found stuck in the net.

"The victim was taken to Bukit Malut MMEA jetty and handed over to police before being taken to Langkawi Hospital for post-mortem," he said in a statement.

It was reported that Aznan had gone missing on Thursday after he fell into the sea while pulling up his fishing net. The incident happened at about seven nautical miles from Pulau Rebak at 8am.

Apart from MMEA, the marine police, Royal Malaysian Navy, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysia Civil Defence Force as well as fishermen community took part in a search and rescue mission activated at 9am on the day of the incident.
