PASIR MAS: A teacher died after collapsing on stage while performing the traditional “dikir barat” at her school’s Teacher’s Day celebration here.

Naizura Mohamed, 43, complained of chest pains during the show with colleagues before collapsing at SK Othman Talib 1 here around noon.

Headmaster Zulhadi Mahamad said efforts to resuscitate the mother of four failed as she was later pronounced dead.

Fellow teacher Othman Mat Zain, 52, said Naizura taught Bahasa Malaysia at the school.

“She was a kind teacher and well liked by her pupils,” he said.

Naizura’s husband Kamarul Azhar Ahmad said the family was shocked over her sudden demise but accepted it as fate.

"She was an active woman and never missed taking part in performances held at her school," said the 44-year-old who is also a teacher.

Naizura was buried at her hometown in Kampung Perangkap at about 6.30pm.
