KLUANG: King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa, who will arrive in Kuala Lumpur tonight for a four-day state visit, will be the first Bahrain Ruler to visit Malaysia after 43 years of diplomatic relations.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who will be the minister in waiting, said the visit proves that Malaysia is an important nation and that the country’s leadership is recognised globally.

“The recent visit by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and now King Hamad, is proof of Malaysia’s success in various aspects, including its leadership that is globally recognised. This also shows that we are on the right track,” said Hishammuddin.

He said during the visit, cooperation in various fields, including defence and intelligence, economy, industry, religion, education and tourism would be the main focus

“The visit will also be a platform for both countries to discuss current issues including the threat of terror ideology, especially from Islamic State, which is spreading around the world,” said Hishammuddin.

He was speaking to the media after closing the Health Ministry’s Ziarah Kasih Sayang programme in Taman Sri Lambak here.

Also present were Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya and Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.
