KUALA LUMPUR: The implementation of targeted subsidies using the government's Central Database Hub (Padu) is expected to be launched in June next year, the Dewan Negara heard today.

Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib said engagement sessions were being carried out to gather views from stakeholders, including on updating household income in the database.

"At the moment, the existing subsidies are maintained.

"Once Padu is completed, we will implement the first policy on their distribution using its data, expected to be announced by the government in June, 2024," she said in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof.

Earlier, Hanifah said Padu, which is expected to be launched next month, would have integrated data from 454 institutes in the public sector.

Data accuracy would be achieved through updates done by individuals starting from next month, and a verification processes with relevant agencies would then be carried out, she said.

On Monday, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said Padu will be operational and implemented in stages starting next month, and that it would help the government as it formulated policies and programmes including and poverty eradication.

The programmes includes the People's Income Initiative (IPR) aimed at eradicating poverty, and received a total 132,404 applications as of Nov 21, 2023
