KUALA LUMPUR: The government will roll out the fourth round of the Geran Khas Prihatin (GKP) 4.0 payments under Pakej Perlindungan Rakyat dan Pemulihan Ekonomi (Pemulih) to micro small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs), starting Tuesday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the GKP 4.0 payments will be disbursed twice to the recipients, with RM500 given this month and another RM500 credited to them in November.

This initiative, he said, involve an allocation of RM500 million and will be distributed to existing recipients under GKP 1.0, GKP 2.0 and GKP 3.0 as well as new recipients enlisted under GKP 4.0.

"This assistance will benefit over a million micro-SMEs to ease their financial burden as they weather these trying times.

"This payment will be credited directly to the bank accounts registered in the GKP system.

"In total, the government has channeled RM6.08 billion for over one million micro-SMEs in the country under the GKP scheme since the Covid-19 pandemic hit our shores.

"The government is prioritising these industry players (micro-SMEs) because this has been one the most affected sectors during the Covid-19 pandemic," he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri hailed micro-SMEs as the "Malaysian Family's engine for economic growth" and hoped that the assistance distributed under GKP 4.0 would spur the recovery of this sector.

"Hopefully, this assistance can help to ease the burden and facilitate cashflow for small traders, such as those who own food stalls, barber shops, workshops and bakeries," he added.

Starting Sept 20, eligible recipients can check their GKP 4.0 approval status via the GKP Portal at https://gkp.hasil.gov.my.
