BAYAN LEPAS: A woman caught on video throwing hot water on a man with Down syndrome inside the lift of an apartment here yesterday has been arrested.

The 39-year-old woman was detained in the same neighbourhood at 9.21pm yesterday to assist police investigations into the case.

Acting southwest district police chief Deputy Superintendent Jafri Md Zain said the woman lives in the same neighbourhood.

"She will be produced for remand today.

"Further investigation is underway," he told the New Straits Times.

The case is being probed under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

It was reported yesterday that a man with Down syndrome was splashed with hot water by a woman inside the lift of an apartment here.

The incident caused the 33-year-old man to suffer burns on his body. He is now in stable condition.

In the 9.20am incident, the victim had complained to his sister that a woman had splashed hot water on him while they were inside the lift.

His sister then lodged a police report.
