BUTTERWORTH: A former store manager was charged at the Sessions Court here today with criminal breach of trust involving RM204,603.60.

Mohamad Rizal Zainal Abiddin, 31, claimed trial to the charge which was read to him by the court interpreter before Judge Noor Aini Yusof.

Rizal, who was entrusted with the company's property, is alleged to have committed breach of trust by fraudulently using proceeds from sales worth RM204,603.60 for his own use.

He allegedly committed the offence at a convenience store at Jalan Bagan Ajam about 3.40pm on June 23, last year.

He was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between one and 14 years, and liable to fine or whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Qatrin Nada Harun asked the court to set bail at RM50,000.

"I am now working as a store assistant," he said, requesting the court for a lower bail.

He also told the court that he had no bailor.

Noor Aini then set bail at RM15,000 with one surety.

She also fixed May 20 for the accused to appoint a lawyer and document submissions.
