KUALA TERENGGANU: A labourer allegedly attacked his wife with a parang after she sought a divorce in an incident in Ketengah Jaya, Dungun, last Sunday.

Dungun District Police Chief, Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir, said a dispute occurred between the 64-year-old man, a permanent resident here and his 39-year-old local wife at around 10pm.

"There was a quarrel between them, and the victim was said to have requested a divorce from the suspect.

"Angered by his wife's request, the suspect took a long object believed to be a parang and struck the victim on the head," she told Bernama when contacted today.

She said the victim was taken to the Emergency Unit of Dungun Hospital before being referred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for treatment.

Maizura said the victim, who works as a cook in a school canteen, suffered a nine-centimetre wound on her forehead and received 10 stitches.

She added that the police are currently tracking down the involved man, and the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.
