KLANG: A woman, who allegedly sold firearms to a suspected Israeli agent detained here, has claimed trial to unlawfully possessing a LUGER pistol last month.

Sharifah Faraha Syed Husin, 41, was charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 before Sessions Court judge Sharifah Hascindie Syed Omar.

She was accused of possessing a CZ 75 P-01 CAL.9 LUGER pistol with the serial number A216210 without a licence.

Sharifah Faraha's husband, Abdul Azim Mohd Yasin, 43, was also charged with her under Section 9 of the Act for consorting with persons carrying firearms.

The charge sheet read he was with her and the circumstances gave rise to reasonable presumptions that he was in the know that she was in possession of the pistol.

They allegedly committed the offence at a house in Jalan Haji Omar, Kampung Bukit Belimbing in Kuala Selangor at 8pm on March 29.

They faced imprisonment of up to 14 years and no fewer than six strokes of the rotan, or both, if found guilty. The couple, who were both unrepresented, pleaded not guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohammad Fakhrurrazi Ahmad Salim did not offer bail as the offence was non-bailable. He was assisted by deputy public prosecutor Fazeedah Faik.

Judge Sharifah Hascindie did not grant bail and set June 11 for mention at the Kuala Selangor Sessions Court.

The couple was arrested by Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department officers at a Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Selangor at 7.15pm on March 29.

Upon their arrest, the police took the suspects to their residence, also in Kuala Selangor, where they found a pistol in a backpack inside their car.

Sources said the male suspect was believed to be responsible for supplying six pistols to the Israeli man – suspected of being a spy – who entered the country using a French passport.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the Israeli man had entered the country through Kuala Lumpur International Airport on March 12.

The 36-year-old man, who was arrested at a hotel in Ampang, was found in possession of six guns and 200 bullets.

He is believed to have entered the country using what was believed to be a fake French passport. Upon interrogation, he produced an Israeli passport.
