JEMPOL: A doctor in a private clinic in Bandar Baru Serting was charged in the Bahau magistrate's court here today for molesting a female employee.

However, the accused, Dr Mohamad Amin Razaly, 36, from Batu Kikir, pleaded not guilty as soon as the charges were read to him before Magistrate Norshazwani Ishak.

According to the charges, the accused was found to have molested the 25-year-old victim in a rest room on the upper floor of the clinic by holding the victim's hand and placing it on his genitals.

The accused is alleged to have committed the act at 10.30pm on Feb 19.

The offence is punishable according to Section 354 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the accused faces up to 10 years jail with a fine or whipping or any two of those punishments.

The prosecution was handled by  Deputy Public Prosecutor Farahidah Zool, who later offered RM10,000 bail.

The accused, who was not represented, asked for the bail amount to be reduced on the grounds that his source of income was cut off when no patients came to the clinic, in addition to having to bear payment commitments to the medicine suppliers.

The court then set bail at RM5,000 with the additional condition that the accused and his family members were prohibited from approaching the victim until the case was resolved.

The court set April 24 for the submission of documents and the appointment of a lawyer.
