KUALA LUMPUR: A parking tout has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Magistrate's Court after being found guilty of operating illegally.

The tout, along with seven individuals including five foreigners, were charged in court after being detained by the DBKL Enforcement Department through the unauthorised parking attendant special operations (Ops Jaga) last Thursday.

DBKL in a statement said the operation was carried out around Jalan Tun Sambathan, Jalan Sri Hartamas, Jalan Beremi, Jalan Tengkat Tong Shin, Jalan Alor and Jalan Raja Alang identified locations, where parking attendants were focusing their activities of guarding and collecting parking fees in public areas.

"A special operation was carried out from 12.30pm until 9.30pm, detaining three local men and five foreigners consisting of three Indians, one Bangladeshi, and one Myanmar citizen.

"All of them were taken to the Enforcement Department for further action and documentation process (court prosecution/investigation papers).

"Yesterday, the DBKL Magistrate's Court sentenced an individual to 30 days in jail, four others were sentenced to 14 days in jail, while the remaining three were fined," it said.

Previously, it was reported that parking touts' activities in the capital city had become endless as they often disturbed road users.

The parking touts were found charging fees up to RM20 per vehicle targeting crowded areas such as shopping malls, dining spots, and near entertainment centres.
