KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak's 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial was postponed today as lead defence counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had taken ill.

Co-counsel Tania Scivetti told the High Court that Shafee was experiencing heart palpitations and would be seeing his doctors today.

"Hopefully, he will be well to attend tomorrow's proceedings. So today, we seek an adjournment," she told Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib then told the court that both parties had suggested additional dates to continue hearing of the case. He proposed March 14,15 and 27, as well as April 1 to 5.

Judge Sequerah said he was fine with the dates. He said the trial for tomorrow will be maintained with hopes that Shafee will attend the proceedings.

Former prime minister Najib is standing trial on 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering involving RM2.28 billion of 1MDB funds. The funds were allegedly deposited into his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
