BATU PAHAT: A salesman for a water filter company was ordered to be held in remand by the the magistrate's court here today for allegedly outraging the modesty of his underage cousin at a house here two years ago.
Magistrate Suhaili Shafi'uddin made the order after police applied for the 27-year-old to be held pending investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
The man, who works in Singapore, was detained on saturday when he returned home to celebrate Chinese New Year.
He was arrested after the victim lodged a report claiming she had been molested by her cousin in June and October, 2022, when she had been staying at the man's family home.
It is understood that the victim, who was 15 at the time of the offences, was staying with her counsin's family after her single father was self-employed and did not have time to look after her.
The victim's mother had died when she was just 6.
