JOHOR BARU: Police said a bomb threat was made against the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) via an email today.

The threat concerned the MBJB Tower in Bukit Senyum here.

The email was from a Takahiro Karasawa (takahiro [email protected]).

Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, who confirmed the threat, said the email was a hoax.

He said there were no suspicious objects found at the tower.

More than 1,000 employees and people were evacuated as a precaution.

They returned to the building, and operations were resumed, after police had checked the tower.

A MBJB spokesman said following the email, evacuation orders were issued to employees and people at the tower.

They were instructed to gather at designated locations while police conducted checks.

Last year, a few bomb threat emails were sent to private schools in the district.

In another case, a foreigner claimed he had placed a bomb in a shopping mall adjoining a hotel, which also was established as a hoax.
