MANJUNG: Police have identified a suspect who intentionally knocked down a policeman twice with his Proton Iriz car on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Chemor here, yesterday.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the policeman was reported to be stable and currently being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh.

"I feel shocked and sad over the incident as my officer was on duty conducting crime prevention patrol on his bike in Jalan Tanjung Rambutan - Chemor.

"The driver of the car rammed into him while he stopped the vehicle. My officer sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated at the HRPB.

"We have identified the suspect and we are tracking him down. Soon, we will make an arrest," he said.

Mohd Yusri said this in a press conference after attending the Road Safety Awareness Programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration at Lekir Toll Plaza of West Coast Expressway (WCE) here, today.

Also present was WCE Holdings chief executive officer, Lyndon Alfred Felix.

Earlier, it was reported that a police officer was seriously injured after being allegedly intentionally hit by a car in a hit-and-run incident on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Chemor last night.

Mohd Yusri in a statement last night said the 7.30pm incident had resulted in the 34-year-old victim suffering fractures to his shoulder and rib.

Mohd Yusri said that the incident occurred when the victim and another police officer were on duty conducting crime prevention patrols on their bikes.

Sensing something was amiss, the two officers approached a blue Proton Iriz, which had stopped on the side of the road.

The driver of the Proton Iriz then reversed the vehicle into the officers' bikes, causing the victim to fall.
