KUALA LUMPUR: A former information technology company manager was fined RM13,000 by the Sessions Court today for making fake claims today.

The claims were for RM9,500 hiring incentives under Social Security Organisation (Socso)'s Penjaya Kerjaya programme three years ago.

Judge Suzana Hussin meted out the sentence on 48-year-old S. Kamala Segaran after he pleaded guilty to three alternative charges.

For the first charge, he was fined RM5,000 and RM4,000 each for the remaining two charges.

The judge ordered Kamala to be jailed one month for each charge if he failed to pay the fine.

The facts of the case read that Kamala, through Tech Train Consultancy, had submitted three documents meant for employee verification under the Penjana Kerjaya 2.0 and 3.0.

He did so despite knowing that the documents he had submitted to Socso were fake and the persons he had named were not working with the company.

He made claims amounting to RM4,343; RM2,260 and RM2,900 for three persons in June, November and December 2021.

The total amount the company had received from Socso were RM9,500 and were paid out in stages.

He committed the offence at Wisma Perkeso, Jalan Tun Razak in Kampung Baru.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuting officer Mohd Yasri Yahya prosecuted.

Kamala was represented by counsel R. Babu Naidu.
