KUALA LUMPUR: It has been a month since the country mourned the tragic death of an autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin and police are still scouring for new leads in the case.
During a press conference today, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay as of now, there were no new leads but police were still continuing the investigation.
"As of now, the police are still continuing with the investigation. We never stopped investigating the case, any new updates will be shared with the media. But for now, there are no new updates," he said during a press conference at Federal Police Headquarters at Bukit Aman, here.
Ayob's statement comes after a Malay daily reported that police have received an update from Interpol regarding Zayn Rayyan.
Last month, it was reported that the police had sought help from Interpol in the murder of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said certain items of evidence were sent to Interpol to be cross-checked with the Interpol database.
He said evidence from Zayn Rayyan's body, which were obtained during the course of investigation, were sent for further detailing and investigation.
Zayn Rayyan was reported missing from his home at Block R Apartment Idaman on Dec 5, after his mother fetched him from school at 12.30pm.
His body was found a day later in a river located about 200m from his home.
Police classified the case as murder when preliminary findings of a post-mortem indicated ligature marks on the autistic boy's neck and body.
