ALOR STAR: The magistrate's court here today granted the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission a three-day remand order against a chief executive officer of a football club for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes amounting to RM6 million three years ago.

The remand order was granted by the Magistrate Siti Norhidayah Mohd Noor when the four suspects were produced at the court for remand proceedings today.

Besides the chief executive officer, the other two are said to be consultants of the football club while the fourth individual is a self-employed man.

According to a source familiar with the investigation, the four, aged between their 40s and 60s were arrested between 6pm and 6.30pm yesterday when they turned up at the Kedah MACC office to have their statement recorded.

"Based on investigations, a sum of over RM6 million was deposited to the football association.

"The bribe is believed to be a kickback for helping a company owner secure a project tender to build a race track and to manage, operate and maintain five water reservoirs in a state," said the source.

When contacted, MACC senior investigation director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16a(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
