KLANG: A motorcyclist, gripped by panic from a police chase, careened through tables and chairs at a local restaurant on Persiaran Raja Muda Musa.

The dramatic episode, caught on video, unfolded in the early hours of Monday morning, capturing the attention of social media users.

Police officers on the scene filed a report for further investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Klang Selatan district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong, said the incident happened at 3am when police personnel from the traffic enforcement and investigation department were carrying out Op Ambang Tahun Baru 2024.

He said police personnel were placed at certain junctions to close the roads so that the errant motorcyclists could not escape.

"During the operation, some errant motorcyclists were competing and going head to head with one another. They tried to escape from being detained when they saw the police personnel.

"Attempts were made to block or stop a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle that was being ridden fast and dangerously by a man, but somehow he managed to escape and ride away.

"The rider also knocked into chairs and tables where customers were sitting at the front of the restaurant," he said last night (Jan 2).

He said that no injuries were reported involving members of the public or the police personnel on site.

Cha urged members of the public with any relevant information regarding the incident to come forward to aid and facilitate investigations.
