BATU PAHAT: A company supervisor was fined RM7,000 by the Magistrate's Court here today after pleading guilty to causing injury to a man using a parang last week.

The accused, Tan Hwee Tien, 42, made the admission after the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code was read before Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin.

According to the charge, he was accused of injuring Tiu Yuan Jun, 26, with a parang in an incident at a premises on Jalan Flora Utama, Taman Flora Utama, here, at 3.30am on Jan 23.

He could also be punished under Section 324 of the same code, with imprisonment up to 10 years or a fine or caning or any two of these penalties.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Khalijah Khalid conducted the prosecution, while the accused was represented by Tan Song Yan.

According to the case facts, the accused armed with a parang was allegedly involved in a brawl that resulted in the victim's injury.

In the same brawl, the accused also received treatment at the hospital after sustaining injuries to the forehead from being hit with a cudgel.

A police report was filed by the victim at the Batu Pahat police headquarters on Jan 23.

The police then arrested the accused two days later, after he had received treatment at the hospital.

After hearing the arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, the court imposed a fine of RM7,000 on the accused.

The court also ordered that the accused be imprisoned for five months if he fails to pay the fine.
