LIPIS: Thieves vandalised several Telekom Malaysia (TM) roadside cabinets before making off with electronic components and telecommunication equipment worth some RM1.2 million last month.

The losses have been reported since December last year in several districts including Lipis, Raub and Bentong.

Lipis police chief Superintendent Azli Mohd Noor said seven cases of theft involving the missing chips and other electronic equipment from the TM cabinets have been reported in the district.

"Investigations revealed that the suspects strike between 9am and 5pm. A total of 30 cabinet boxes were reported stolen in Lipis and neighbouring districts.

"Each time a cabinet is opened and the electronic items are stolen, TM customers in the respective area will not be able to use the internet services and suffer telecommunication disruptions.

"Members of the public with information on the theft incidents or notice of suspicious individuals near the TM cabinets especially in Lipis can immediately alert the police," he said in a statement.

Those who have any information can contact investigating officer Inspector Amirul Aiman at 017- 7093942 or the Lipis police control centre at 09- 3122222.
