KUALA LUMPUR: "We heard cries for help, and then suddenly it went silent." Those were the last moments of a husband and wife, believed to have been murdered by their own son, in their home in Kampung Sungai Penchala here yesterday.

According to a witness, the incident occurred at 7pm, while residents were preparing for Maghrib prayer.

"The victims' neighbour heard cries for help.

"Both victims were found in a horrifying condition. This is an extremely tragic incident because I know the victims' family," said the neighbour when met at the scene yesterday.

According to another neighbour of the victims, who has known the family for over 40 years, the suspect had been frequently seen going to the mosque lately.

The neighbour said that the suspect, who is in his 40s, is known in the village as someone who had a history of being in and out of detention centres due to drug addiction issues.

"I'm shocked. I've known him (the suspect) since he was a child. I never thought he would do something like this.

"The suspect himself was diligent in helping his father with household chores," he said.

Earlier, the media reported that a married couple was found dead, believed to have been stabbed by their own son during a fight in their home in Kampung Sungai Penchala.

In the incident around 7pm, the bodies of the elderly couple, aged 72 and 82, were discovered lying in a pool of blood in the living room of their house.
