KUALA LUMPUR: The police have recorded the statements of five individuals to assist in the investigation of the murder of the autistic six-year-old, Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, including his parents so far.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said that police will also record statements from neighbours and school authorities to aid in the investigation.
"So far, five individuals have been called to give statements, including the victim's parents. The investigation is still ongoing, and the police will also summon several neighbours in the residential area and the school authorities of the victim," he said.
The victim previously attended SK Damansara Damai 2.
It is understood that, besides the parents, the first person who discovered Zayn Rayyan's body is among the five individuals who provided statements.
When asked if there is more than one suspect involved in the crime, Hussein said that the matter is still under investigation. He added that police are exploring all possibilities, including the likelihood that the victim may have known the suspect.
Earlier, a forensic examination at the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensic Department yesterday found evidence of injuries to Zayn Rayyan's neck and body, suspected to be the result of a criminal act.
Following this, the case previously classified as sudden death has been reclassified as murder and is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Previously, the New Straits Times reported that Zayn Rayyan was noticed missing at 12.30 noon on Tuesday before his mother made announcements on social media and filed a police report.
After more than 30 hours of being missing, the body of the six-year-old victim was found near a river about 200m from his residence in Block R, Idaman Apartments, Damansara Damai at 10 pm yesterday.
