KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statement Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin's parents and several others in connection to the six-year-old autistic boy's murder.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fakhrudin Abd Hamid confirmed that
police recorded the statement with Zayn's parents last night to facilitate investigations.
He also revealed that the crime scene is officially closed to the public pending completion of the probe.
"We have recorded several statements from witnesses and the boy's parents last night (Thursday). If needed, they would be called again to facilitate police investigations," he said when met at the scene today.
Fahkruddin added that the area where the victim was found, which is about 200m from his house, has also been condoned off to members of the public.
"We have closed the area to help with thegathering of any remaining evidence. But this is only for the time being until the investigations are all complete."
He also confirmed that there are no closed circuit television at the scene, but police are still checking whether any of the homes might have their own CCTV, which could shed light to case.
"Anyone with information regarding the case may come forward and assist in the investigation," he said urging the nearby residents nearby to furnish them with any possible clues which could lead to closure.
Zayn Rayyan went missing on Tuesday afternoon after returning from school with his mother.
His remains were later found in the shallow waters of the riverbank at about 9.30pm on Wednesday by a resident who participated in the search for the missing child.
Police launched a massive operation to identify and nab Zayn Rayyan's killer around the Idaman Apartment area since last night.
This morning, more investigators and officers believed to be from the Forensics Unit as well as Selangor police headquarters and Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department were gathered at the scene where the boy's remains were found on Wednesday night.
"Officers and personnel were combing the site again for any possible clues or signs which could help in the ongoing investigation.
"The search has been expanded from the initial scene to along the waterway," he added.
The investigative team is also expected to conduct door-to-door checks later, if the need arises.
Yesterday, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan announced that the death of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan was reclassified from sudden death (SDR) to a case of homicide after an autopsy found injuries to the child's neck and body.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain in a press conference last night, said they will revisit the case from the beginning, including the time when Zayn went missing.
He also said police will carry out further inspections at the scene to obtain new evidence and clues that can assist the investigation.
Shuhaily had confirmed that Zayn most likely had been killed elsewhere before his body was positioned at the scene late Wednesday night.
He said there were defensive wounds found on the victim's body during the post-mortem and that he did not die due to drowning.
